Soros Foundation launches study “Beneficial management of the immigration in Romania” 03.08.2010 - 03.08.2010

The study is part of the research and analysis series carried out by the Soros Foundation Romania in the framework of the Migration and Development Program, which aims to contribute to the development and promotion of coherent, viable and sustainable public policies in the field of migration, by mobilizing the existent expertise at national level and at different institutional and organizational levels regarding the management of the migratory flow. The study launching event will take place on Tuesday, 3rd of August 2010, in the presence of the representatives of several institutions activating in the field of immigration and integration of foreigners in Romania, of foreigner NGOs and associations, of the embassies of the foreign communities of Romania, mass-media representatives, international organizations and other actors interested in the immigration phenomenon in Romania.

The National Council for the Prevention of Discrimination, in partnership with the Organization of the Refugee Women in Romania and the Intercultural Institute Timisoara will organize an event to celebrate the Refugee International Day, on the 21st of June. The event will take place at the Green Hours Club in Bucharest on the 17th of June. The activities include a debate on the topic of TCN and diversity, a music and dance performance offered by TCN citizens and a sale exhibition of African hand-made products.

The Japanese Language Department within the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest invites you to take part in the first edition of the Japanese Festival Michi Biraki (Open path) on Sunday, 25th of April 2010. In the framework of the festival you will be able to prepare and taste sushi, dress yourselves in kimonos and make origami figures. There will also be an ikebana exhibition and a karaoke show. The students of the Japanese Language Department will be there to guide you through all the activities. The event is organized with the support of the students within the Japanese Language Department, in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Bucharest, the Association of the Japanese language teachers of Romania, "Ion Creanga" National College Bucharest and "Dimitrie Cantemir" University. The Japanese festival Michi Biraki (Open path) will take part in the Botanical Garden of the University of Bucharest starting with 10:00 am.

Romanian language and cultural orientation courses 07.04.2010 - 01.07.2010

The Intercultural Institute Timisoara organizes in the period April - June 2010 Romanian language and cultural orientation courses.
The courses are organized in Timisoara (School no. 14) and Bucharest (School no. 71) by the Intercultural Institute Timisoara, in partnership with the University of the West Timisoara and the Romanian-Arabian Cultural Center, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sport and the Romanian Immigration Office, which ensures the financing through the European Integration Fund.
The courses address third country nationals (citizens from non EU states) residing in Romania and are developed as follows: The Romanian language course: 14 hours per week, during 10 weeks. The cultural orientation course: 10 hours per week, during 7 weeks.
The participation in the course is free of charge. At the end of the Romanian language courses the participants will receive a language certificate issued by the Ministry of Education. The cultural orientation courses include elements useful for the test to obtain the Romanian citizenship.
One person can enroll in both courses. As the number of places is limited, admission to the course is done in order of applications. For details and application you can contact us at:

OSCE photo contest on tolerance and non-discrimination 23.03.2010 - 10.05.2010

The OSCE launched a photo contest today to highlight tolerance and non-discrimination - key priorities of the OSCE Chairmanship of Kazakhstan in 2010 - with winners receiving a trip to Astana in June. Initiated and financed by the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the OSCE, the contest invites photographers, both professional and amateur, residing in the 56 OSCE participating States to submit photos illustrating the importance of tolerance and non-discrimination on racial, ethnic, cultural, linguistic or religious grounds. A selection of photographs will be presented at a special exhibition at the OSCE High-Level Conference on Tolerance and Non-discrimination in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on 29 and 30 June, and showcased on the OSCE website. The prize for the five winners will be a trip to Astana to an award ceremony at the conference, and a tour of the sights and surroundings of Astana. The deadline for submissions of entries is 10 May 2010, 24:00 (midnight) Central European Time. Professor Aline Gohard-Radenkovic will talk about some of the European experiences regarding language courses for migrants to the group of specialists within the University of the West who will elaborate a modern methodology and multimedia didactic materials for adults who want to learn the Romanian language.

The Intercultural Institute Timisoara, in partnership with the University of the West Timisoara, the Romanian-Arabian Cultural Centre in Timisoara and DiversEtica Association, will run in the period January-June 2010 the project entitled The Romanian Language - an opportunity for social and cultural integration. The project is financed through the European Fund for Integration and aims at elaborating a didactic methodology and support materials to improve the quality of the Romanian language courses and cultural orientation sessions for TCN. 100 TCN citizens from Bucharest and Timisoara will benefit from the Romanian language courses and cultural orientation sessions in the framework of the project, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports.

16 November = National Day of Integration = International Day of Tolerance 16.11.2009 - 16.11.2009

The members of the National Working Groups for Integration established within the ICS4RTT project decided during their meeting in Timisoara on 9-11 October to declare 16 November as the National Day for Integration. 16 November has already been declared by UNESCO as the International Day of Tolerance. 16 November will be celebrated through a variety of public events in Bucharest, Timisoara, Cluj, Iasi and Constanta.
